Thomas A. “Tom” Mathews, 71, passed away December 8, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in Jacksonville, FL. He was born July 19, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arlie and Hazel Mathews. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and worked in civil service for 20 years. Tom loved to play golf in his spare time, enjoyed traveling and was a Jaguars fan. He was also very involved in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Mathews, his children Keith Mathews (Lisa) and Cathy Smith (Bud), grandchildren Chris Smith, Kyle Smith, and Will Mathews, brother Dan Mathews and many other dear friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends from 10-11am Thursday, December 15 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach. The service will follow at 11am Thursday at Hardage-Giddens.
