On Friday, April 25, 2025, Mr. Alan Omotosho Abidogun peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest. His was a life marked by integrity, perseverance, deep wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He was a man of strong principles — a no-nonsense individual whose quiet strength and sense of responsibility left a lasting impact on everyone privileged to know him.
Born on June 12, 1949, in Ogbomosho, Nigeria, Alan was the firstborn child of Madam Ayisatu Arinola and Alao Adebayo Abidogun. He was raised in Ilorin, Kwara State, and from an early age, he embraced education and leadership. After completing his primary schooling, he attended the esteemed Olivet Baptist High School, graduating in 1969.
Alan began his career as an accountant with Nigeria Airways, working there from 1969 to 1973. In pursuit of greater opportunity and knowledge, he immigrated to the United States on June 9, 1973, first arriving in Miami, Florida. With fierce determination, he worked various jobs to support himself through school, attending Burnside Aviation School with dreams of becoming a pilot. Although that path shifted, his love of learning did not.
Alan went on to earn an Associate Degree in Chemistry from Miami Dade College in 1975, and later achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from Xavier University in New Orleans in 1981. He became a licensed pharmacist in the state of Louisiana in 1982 — a profession he pursued passionately for decades. He worked with Eckerd Pharmacy (now CVS), Walgreens, and Pick 'n Save Pharmacy, touching countless lives with his knowledge and care.
In 2009, Alan retired after suffering a stroke. But retirement was not the end — it was simply a new chapter. Refusing to be idle, he went on to open and operate Arlington Pharmacy in Jacksonville, Florida from 2013 to 2019. His commitment to serving others remained strong until the business was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alan was a devoted family man. He was first married to Ms. Vienne Lavern Rice, with whom he had one daughter, Oluranti Abidogun. In 1986, he married Mrs. Mojisola Olufemi Abidogun (née Adeniyi), and together they built a life of love, strength, and purpose. He was the proud father of three sons: Victor, Charles, and Richard Abidogun.
As the eldest of his siblings, Alan was a guiding figure in both his immediate and extended family — a man who led by example and carried himself with quiet authority and honor. He was deeply respected and relied upon for his wisdom, steady hand, and fair judgment. He was a man of tradition, yet deeply curious about the world.
Alan had a deep appreciation for the simplicities of life — a good conversation, a walk in nature, or time spent providing for and with his family. He was especially passionate about learning new things and exploring different cultures. His love for travel allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, deepening his sense of empathy and perspective.
Alan was a man of God and a devoted Christian. He attended New Life Christian Fellowship off Hodges Road.
Mr. Abidogun is survived by his beloved wife, Mojisola Abidogun; his children, Oluranti Abidogun, Victor Abidogun, Charles Abidogun, and Richard Abidogun; and his cherished siblings Jumoke Babatunde, Jibola Areo, Funmilayo Raji, Ayo Adams, Nusirat Akinola, Risi Abidogun, and Tajudeen Abidogun. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, including Alhaja Tawa Lawal, Kuburat Lawal, Johnson Oke, and Lateef Olaniyan, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members across Nigeria and the United States.
Though Alan’s physical journey has come to a close, his example, legacy, and values will continue to guide his family for generations to come. He lived with dignity, purpose, and humility — and above all, he lived a life worth celebrating.
A visitation for Alan will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A funeral service will occur at 12:00 PM, with a graveside service immediately following.
