He joined the United States Army in 1961 and after that worked for OE Smith Son’s for more than 40 years. Albert was a family man, who enjoyed anything that involved gathering with family and was a big Florida Gator Fan.
He is survived by this wife of 39 years, Patricia Smith; sister, Alice Hygema; sons, Joel Mathis, Sr. and Scott Mathis; also 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Eugene Smith and Georgia May Smith; brother, George Oliver Smith and son, Danny Lamar Mathis, Sr.
