With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alice, who left us on February 4th, 2025, at the age of 67. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Nana, Friend and an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of many.
A Life of Dedication and Service
Mom was born on May 15, 1957, at St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, Alice was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. She Graduated High School from Robert E. Lee in 1975.
Alice’s first job was at C&C grocery on Cassat Ave. where she met the love of her life Rick. They were together ever since and would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this June. After graduating, Mom worked in customer service at a few different places including as a waitress, at the contract post office, at Continental and Prudential insurance companies, and later even worked with Dad in the construction business. With her strong opinions and unwavering ethics, she always made her mark. She was known for her intelligence, work ethic, eye for detail, always striving to act on principle, and doing the right thing.
Family and Loved Ones
Alice is survived by her loving husband Rick, her wonderful son Chris and his wife Patti, who she always treated as her own daughter, and her beautiful grandchildren Christopher and Lilli who will forever cherish the memory of her love, her sense of humor, her laugh, her spirit, and her very lengthy stories. She was predeceased by her father Ronald, mother Vera Mae, her sister Norma Jean, her “sweet” Grandma, cousins Fred and Paula Witt, Aunt Norma and Uncle Stanley, who were some of the original members of our church, and many others whose spirits she now joins in eternal peace.
Mom had many friends who she considered “the family you get to choose”. She loved so many of you for so many years, even as far back as grade school and Junior high. Mom had a big heart and a capacity to love much bigger than she ever was.
Passions and Interests
Outside of her professional life, Mom had a variety of interests and hobbies. She was very creative and passionate about painting, loved antiquing, and most of all being active at our church, often spending her free time helping or organizing events. She spent many summers, often with the help of her grandchildren, decorating the hallway and fellowship hall for vacation bible school. She was a Deacon, a Stphens Minister, a WESCO Board member, among many other roles in service at our church. She made so many new friends and reconnected with some old friends when she and Dad came back to SJPC many years ago.
Mom’s enthusiasm for meeting people, having meaningful conversations, and socializing with friends and family was inspiring, and she never met a stranger. Mom loved music, although she said the only thing she could play was the radio. She really enjoyed watching the three generations of Barrett men, Rick, Chris, and Christopher, play music at local places around town.
Funeral and Memorial Services
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday February 13th at St. Johns Presbyterian Church 4275 Herschel St. Jacksonville, FL 32210 at 11 am. There will be a reception in Fellowship Hall directly afterwards. The service will also be broadcast live on the church website www.sjpcjax.org. Family and friends are invited to gather at our church, if you are able, to celebrate the life and love of Alice, our Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend.
