

Ann was born in Savannah, GA on March 15, 1925 to the late Stella & Lawrence W. Crovatt. The oldest of 4, she helped her mother by teaching & guiding her 3 younger siblings.
She attended Romana Riley Elementary School, Henry Street Middle School & Savannah High School (Class of 1943). She was employed at Hunter Air Force Field. She met her future husband, Capt. Robert T. Mitchell (Bob) who was enlisted in the Air Force as an Aviation Cadet. They were wed on August 10, 1943 in DeRitter, LA and were married for 34 years.
In September of 1945, when Bob completed his World War II duty, Ann & Bob settled in Savannah, GA. The first of their 4 daughters (Robin) was born there. They moved to Houston, TX where their 2nd daughter (Ann) was born & then to Shreveport, LA where the next 2 daughters were born (Carol & Margaret). They returned to Savannah, GA in 1959 to settle and raise their girls.
Ann learned Accounting from her father and spent her career working in that field. She kept the books for Bob’s store, Southeast Georgia Auto Parts & Stereo Tape City. She also worked for Friedman, Haslam & Weiner, Thimble Square as an Accountant & processed payroll for several large grocery firms in Savannah.
After Bob passed away in 1977, Ann married Frank Streiff, Jr in 1979. They were married for 20 years.
Ann was a former member of the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church & the Skidaway Island Methodist Church. Being the 6th family to move into the Landings on Skidaway Island, she was one of the founding members of The Landings Club at Skidaway Island. She also was a member of Savannah Yacht Club. She played golf for over 40 years. She was one of Savannah’s 1st women to become a local USGA member. She also was an accomplished bridge player & played from her teens into her 90’s.
Ann gave so much, in many ways and in return was loved by all. She was an avid reader, an experienced seamstress and had many friends. Her flair for cooking was enjoyed by many. She made delicious tiramisu, biscotti, chocolate eclairs, hot spiced tea, lasagna & maple syrup. When scuppernongs were in season, she made delicious wine. Every Christmas, sour cream pound cakes, rum cakes and batches of fudge were enjoyed by all.
Ann was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, her parents, her brothers Sam and Lawrence Crovatt, Jr and her sister, Lorraine Street.
Ann is survived by her four daughters, Robin Evans (Robert), Ann Lott (Wendell), Carol Russell (Chubby) & Margaret Costa (Joe), 8 grandchildren: Van & Jayce Evans, Guerin & Leslie Lott, Russ & Brent Russell, Conrad Johnson & Melody Johnson Robinson, several great grandchildren, numerous nieces/nephews & several great nieces/nephews.
A visitation will be followed by a funeral service on Thursday, April 24th at 5:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N in Jacksonville, FL. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 25th at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, 315 Greenwich Rd in Savannah, GA.
