Bernice Murphey, age 89, born as the second identical twin girl, 2 minutes after her sister Barbara, to Homer Sagraves and Mauretia White LeVally Sagraves in Portsmouth, OH on October 4, 1935. She went home to be with our Heavenly Father and those she loved so dearly, who preceded her, on February 3, 2025.
She married Joe E. Murphey on May 9, 1953. She went to school through the 11th grade but had a PhD in loving her family. She was a homemaker, babysitter, foster mom, nurse’s aide, caregiver, for anyone sick or recovering in the family, and the World’s Best Mama!!
She was also an artist, did beautiful crafts with flowers and made the most amazing wedding cakes, as well as other birthday and anniversary cakes, they were also delicious.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joe E. Murphey; twin sister, Barbara Loomis (Kenny-deceased); mother, Mauretia LeValley; and many other aunts and uncles.
Bernice is survived by her 4 children, Barbara Joe Covington (Bill-deceased), Kathy Murphey Goodman (Michael), Joe E. Murphey, Jr. (Renee) ad Michael Joe Murphey (Danae). Bernice is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way, including identical twins.
Aunt Bea was very important to her twin sister Barbara’s 4 children, and they loved their Aunt very much as Mom did them, please bless Diane, Ron, Scott and Brenda. There were 2 very special nurses in Mom’s life toward the end, Tammy and Yolanda, she loved you both and I’m so blessed they were a part of her life.
We have lost a beloved Mother, grandmother and friend who truly knew the meaning of love. She shared it with her family and taught her children and grandchildren. We were so blessed to have her in our lives, and she will be so missed by everyone who loved her.
