I'd like to express my deepest sympathy to the family on Carl's passing. I was privileged to serve under Warrant Officer Simcox in R4 division (electronics repair) on the USS Grand Canyon, AD 28 out of Newport RI. He saved my rear once at executive Officer's Mast when I was caught in a no-no (long story). My fondest memory of Mr. Simcox involved at time when we were out in the middle of the Atlantic on our way to Naples, Italy in the late fall of 1967. The officer of the deck insisted that our radar antenna was making noise, (although no one else could hear it) so it came down to me as radar gang leader to go up the king post to the crows nest that supported the antenna drive motor to check things out -  out at sea on a rolling ship, in the middle of the Atlantic on a windy day. There was really no evidence that anything was wrong, but someone had to go check it out. So Mr. Simcox said he'd go along! He was not the slimmest guy by that time and its a long climb up with nothing to tie off to on the way. Long story short we managed the trip up and back to verify that everything was fine and managed not to fall off in the process. He didn't have to risk his neck just to help me out, but he did. It was a pleasure to serve with him. I wish I had known sooner of his passing. May he rest in peace, he certainly earned it. 

Bill, Bob, Chuck, & Deb- I am so sorry to hear you lost your dad. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Carl and Aunt Gloria, and of all the laughs we shared. I remember how much your dad loved watching old John Wayne movies, teasing your mom and Bonnie, and sharing parts of Florida with visitors. I loved touring the ships in Newport when I was young. I'll never forget how frustrated Uncle was when I was so bored at Fenway during a Red Sox double-header. You're all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Uncle Carl was a special uncle to me.  I have a few memorable moments with some uncles, but he most impactful ones were with Carl.  I remember him coming to the Jacksonville airport to pick up me and Teri when we went to visit him and Gloria and vacation in Orlando and Cape Canaveral.  I remember him coming to rescue me on the naval base in RI when I drove off in his old Simca and stalled it out and couldn't start it.  I remember playing softball with him and some of his buddies when I visited.  I remember him driving me home from the naval base in RI to Canton, MA one day just so I could do my paper route!  I also remember him telling me, "Joey, there will never be peace in the world between countries because there is often not peace within families."  Unfortunately, very true.  And who could forget him ringing the bell at the house on Neptune Beach whenever a pretty woman walked or bicycled past the house!  Or him asking you to pull his finger!  Carl was fun-loving and a proud man.  Proud of his family and proud of his nation.  Will miss him and never forget him.
