Charles V. Burgess, age 89, passed away on September 3, 2014 after a long illness. He was born on January 25, 1925 in Rule, Arkansas. He joined the Navy in 1943 and retired in 1963 as a Photo Intelligence Specialist. The Navy brought him to Jacksonville where he fell in love with the area. After the Navy Charles began work as a machinist and retired from Ginter Box Factory.Mr. Burgess was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He enjoyed fishing with his favorite fishing partner, Bernice, his wife. He also enjoyed taking his step grandchildren fishing at Kingsley Lake. Mr. Burgess is preceded in death by his brother Jim and sister Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bernice, a son Paul (Tina), two sisters Eulene Giles, Beverly Neal (Jay) three step-children Sara Dryden (Ronnie), Robert Mixson, John Mixson (Diane). He also leaves behind five step-grand children and seven step-great grand-children. Mr. Burgess enjoyed life and family. He enjoyed family gatherings as well as spending summers at Kingsley Lake. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the chapel from 1:00-2:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm with interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
