Cleveland Godwin, age 83, passed away peacefully August 18, 2013. He was born October 1, 1929 in Brantley, Alabama. At the age of 17 Cleveland joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After 21 years of proudly serving his country he retired as Chief Gunner's Mate. During this time he received numerous medals and commendations. After retiring from the U.S. Navy he set out to become a barber. He owned and operated Allen's Barber Shop in Regency Square Mall until he retired in 1998.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lena Mae, in 2005.
Cleveland leaves behind two daughters - Linda Van Pelt and Gale Boone; 2 sons - Paul (Debbie) Godwin and Keith (Carey) Godwin; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Lomax (Martha) Godwin and 4 sisters - Cleo (CV) Spears, Margaret (Bob) Smith, Clora Godwin, Karen (Earl) Prather; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cleveland enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, football, NASCAR, gardening and spending time with his family.
Cleveland was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all.
