
Corbert Joseph Gomez, Jr., 83, a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and a true friend passed away on May 21, 2013. In fondest memory, we celebrate his life that has forever touched us all.
He was the oldest son of Corbert Joseph Gomez, Sr. and Nellie Landry Gomez; he was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He traveled the world in the Navy as a career Chief Petty Officer, before retiring in 1967. He resided most recently in Dickinson, Texas; Palm Bay, Florida; and was some years ago a long time resident of Jacksonville, Florida.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen Gomez; daughter, Katy Jo Cooper; son, James Preston Gomez, Sr.; and two brothers, Maurice Gomez and Irby Gomez.
He is survived by his four children, Linda Bartley (Bill, deceased), Julie Dekker (Randy), Corbert Joseph Gomez, III (Janice), and Tina Neff (Rich); and his three sisters, Lydia Comberrel (Vincent), Shirley Griffin, Janie Kuhn (Wayne); and his one brother, Paul Gomez (Gloria); and ten loving grandchildren as well as sixteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Military funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in the chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS CHAPEL HILLS FUNERAL HOME, 850 St Johns Bluff Road N., Jacksonville, Florida www.hardage-giddenschapelhills.com with internment in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or to your local hospice.
