

Daniel G. Cowen, 93, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. Dan is preceded in death by his son Ronald, dad Edward, mom Ida Mae, 2 brothers William, Spurgeon and sister Lizza Mae. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Betty, his children Gary (Birgit), Robert (Ligaya), Amber (James), grandchildren Nicola, Dustin, Kalahn, brothers E.J. Joe, Ken, sister Mary Emma, sister-in-law Johnnie, daughter-in-law Karen and numerous nieces, and nephews. Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home is serving the family. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10-11am at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210. Funeral services begin at 11am with interment at Riverside Memorial Park. Pastor Troy Ray is officiating.
Daniel served as a pilot in the Air Corps then on to the Air Force in the early days of his career, then went on to become a special agent in OSI and retired as a charter member after twenty-five years. Following OSI, Daniel was an investigator for civil service for approximately the same length of time. Dan was a member of a Masonic lodge in Texas and was the Grand Master of a lodge in Germany in 1956. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite and many other organizations and had been president of a resort in Daytona beach for over 20 years. He was a member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church since 1973. He was a member of Petinternational.org which was a group of volunteers that served by assembling hand-cranked wheelchairs to provide the gift of mobility to those, in other countries, who have lost their legs. His hobbies also included gardening. He had a deep love for his citrus trees and his tiny vegetable garden. He will be remembered for his patient, gentle, kind, and loving ways, his faith in God and family, and his love for the Gators. Donations can be made in Dan's memory to Lake Shore United Methodist Church or to a Charity of your choice.
