

Daniel was born March 28, 1944, in Fayette County, Alabama. He drove a school bus during his junior and senior year. He graduated Tuscaloosa County High School in 1962 and joined the United States Navy. After a dedicated twenty-year career, he retired May 21, 1982, as a Chief Petty Officer. He then started his second career with the United States Postal Service and served as a letter carrier for 20 years.
Daniel married Karen Louise Rogers on January 17, 1974, in Norfolk, Virginia. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was a loving father to his 2 children and 2 stepchildren. He was a loving Poppy to his grandchildren and great grandchild. He liked to fish, bowl and watch game shows. He was known to clown around with family and make his grandchildren smile.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father James Roscoe Nichols and mother Audra Elizabeth (Davis) Nichols, brothers Davis Ray Nichols (Mary) and Curtis Marvin Nichols (Mary), sisters Myra Jean Bonner (Erston) and Mary Marguerite Essex (Eugene), and stepson Robert Roy Deptula Jr.
He is survived by his wife Karen Louise (Rogers) Nichols, his children Daniel Wade Nichols II (Amanda), Amy Nichols, stepdaughter Kimberly Grace Hubbard, grandchildren Cyrus Braden Nichols (Julia), Mi ’Amor Jayde Pare, Angelina Grace Cintron, Rylee Brooke Nichols, his great grandson Mykah Colson Nichols, his brother Phelan Nichols (Jan), and sisters Sarah Jo Rodgers (Tim) and Alice Shirley (Mike).
A visitation for family and friends of Daniel will be held Thursday August 29, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7247 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A memorial service for Daniel will begin at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception, at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
