Dozell Varner Jones

Dozell Varner Jones is a phenomenal Husband, Provider, Father, Poppy and Friend. Born on December 9, 1950, to the late Willie and Juanita Jones in Jacksonville, Florida. Dozell gave his life to the Lord at a very early age at Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated high school from Eugene J. Butler and became a second-generation International Longshoreman. He was a dedicated worker and gave years of wisdom to many of his co-workers on the waterfront. Two doors down from his childhood home he met the love of his life Carmen Powell. Dozell and Carmen have been married for 46 years and were truly each other’s best friend. Throughout the years, they set an example of what commitment and love looks like through all the ups and downs of life. Dozell was a member of Impact Church for 24 years and served faithfully on the Usher Team. Dozell loved sports, watching wrestling, and played softball well into his sixties. He retired after 46 years and enjoyed spending time with his grand girls and pups Max and Ginger. Even though he was a man of few words he positively impacted the lives of many. We will always remember his kindness, playful spirit, Motown dance moves and wonderful smile. Dozell loved God and his family fiercely and we are so blessed that God chose to give him to us and he will always live in our hearts.

Dozell transitioned to his new life in heaven on Monday, June 10th, 2024. He was preceded in death by both parents Wille and Juanita Jones, and his brothers Bobby Jones and Willie Jones Jr. He leaves to carry on this memory and legacy – his Wife Carmen Jones, their two Children Brittney Spence (Fredrick) and Solomon Jones (Amanda), Siblings Jean Frere (Jacques), Anetta Smith (late Tenny), and Granddaughters Simone and Gianna Spence, and many other wonderful Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Family, and Friends.

A celebration of life for Dozell will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Impact Church, 9501 Arlington Expressway, Suite 245, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.
