

Francis (Gene) attended Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He began his sixty plus year career in printing as a pressman, advancing to plant manager, and eventually moving into sales until his retirement with Paramount-Miller. He married Peggy Pearce McCloud on January 6, 1951.
He loved golfing, fishing, and following his Florida Gators as a Booster for fifty plus years. In recent years, he spent most Friday nights watching his great-grandsons play football at University Christian School. Family was the most important thing in his life, often spending time with them in his Gatlinburg Mountain home, summer vacations spent at St. Pete Beach and his most favorite, vacations spent at Kingsley Lake taking the old Sea Ray boat for a spin and fishing off the dock. Gene was an ordained deacon and long-time member of Arlington Baptist Church.
Gene is survived by daughter, Catanna “Tanya” Land (Tony); granddaughter, Leanne Thomas (Matt); great-grandsons, Caleb Thomas and Luke Thomas; brothers, Norman McCloud (Kirb) and Jimmy McCloud (Linda); sister, Evelyn Cosentino, brother-in-law, Jimmy Henry Pearce, Jr. (Linda); sister-in-law, Sandra Dugger; special friend, Jean Lyons; and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Peggy Pearce McCloud; father, Francis Marion McCloud; mother, Nannie Crews McCloud; father-in-law, Jim Henry Pearce; mother-in-law, Pansy Lloyd Pearce; sisters-in-law, Jeannette Pearce, Faye Brinson (WD); brothers-in-law, Donnie Pearce (Barbara), Wilbur Pearce, Darrell Pearce (Kay), David Pearce, George Dugger and Pete Cosentino.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 1:30pm at Living Faith Church, 6731 Ramona Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A Visitation will begin at the Church at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
