

Gloria Ann Barnett Whitney, age 96, passed away on July 22, 2024 at Life Care Center at Wells Crossing, Orange Park. Gloria was born to Andrew and Celine Barnett on May 21, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, Jacksonville, in 1946 and later continued her education in dental assisting certification and enjoyed a fairly lengthy career as a dental assistant. Following a career in the dental field, she worked as a bookkeeper.
Gloria loved gardening and taking walks with her neighbors. Another passion was playing cards and Bingo and always looked forward to her days at St Catherine’s Catholic Church Young at Heart Senior group, where she also was a parishioner. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and was very talented at both.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Celine Barnett; husband, John P. Whitney, Jr.; a sister, Shirley Lehman; and a brother, George Barnett. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Whitney Boozer and son-in-law Wilson Boozer of Orange Park; granddaughters Nicole Boozer Franklin (Alan), Boones Mill, Virginia, Jennifer Boozer Curry (James), Green Cove Springs, Florida; grandson John Wilson Boozer (Natalie), Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandchildren Whitney Curry, Joel Boozer, and Gavyn Curry; and sister, Mary Young (Thomas), Jacksonville, FL. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge Life Care Center at Wells Crossing for the wonderful and professional care she received during her time of residency there.
A memorial service for Gloria will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the memorial service, the family will gather for a reception at the funeral home. Father John Reynolds will serve as officiant of the memorial service.
