James was born on May 31, 1945, in Crowder, Missouri.
James enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and traveled the world while serving our country. He was a true patriot. After being honorably discharged from the Army, James worked tirelessly every day. Even after a long shift at his full-time job at an aluminum smelter, James came home to tend to his family, his farm animals and a huge, impressive garden.
His many hobbies always kept him busy – hunting, fishing, gardening, collecting guns, antiques, and restoring old tractors. He could build things from wood, weld/fabricate anything needed, and repair trucks and cars. He could do it all!
In 2011, James and Faye moved to Florida to be with their son, Brian. Although James was always a Missourian at heart, he treasured being with his family in Florida, and the people and community of Glen St. Mary.
Above all else, James was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
James is survived by Faye Box, his loving wife of 50 years, who he affectionately called “Faye Doll.” His son, Brian, was the pride of his life, together with his daughter-in-law Lauren and three beautiful granddaughters Lily, Annie, and Ivy, who loved their “Papa” fiercely. He is also survived by his loving sisters Nadine, Deloris and Murline, and countless other friends and family.
Burial is to be held on October 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. A church service will follow on October 14, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., to be held at Manntown Congregational Church, 8087 County Road 125, Glen St. Mary, Florida 32040.
His family will cherish all the wonderful memories and all the great things he taught us. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched over his wonderful 80 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
