

Howard was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, the son of James Newton Salter and Dorothy M. (McCallum) Salter, now deceased.
He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1959 and proudly served 6 years in the Air National Guard. Howard retired as a Lieutenant in 2004, after serving 42 years with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. He also worked at Jacksonville Firemen’s Credit Union for 25 years and served as Treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Firefighters (FOOF) until 2004.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Janice Salter. Surviving, in addition to the love of his life for almost 56 years, Junell; their children Jamie Salter, Brian Salter (Marta) and Cassandra Clark; grandchildren Luke and Graham Salter; Brother Donald Salter; and nephews Donnie, Ben and Tyler Salter.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Gardenview Baptist Church, 3139 Armsdale Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
In lieu of flowers, please made a donation to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257. They were Angels to Howard and our family during his final days.
