On March 1, 2025, John David Rorer, 77, of Jacksonville left his earthly body and reunited with his lost love, Debbie Cundiff Rorer. John was an only child, born in Lynchburg, VA on August 17, 1947 to Hennie Younger Rorer and Adrien Bell Rorer. John is survived by two former wives, Sally MacKinnon Rorer of Jacksonville and Shirley English Decker of Cape Coral; two children, Kate Rorer Watson (m. Brian) of Los Angeles and John Alexander Rorer of Cape Coral; and several stepchildren, cousins, and friends.
From a young age, John sought to stand out and live an interesting life. He had an assortment of exotic pets, including a flying squirrel, descented skunk, green iguana, and a Chausie as a 20-year companion. He obtained a pilot’s license as a teenager, and later learned to fly helicopters and race sailboats. In his professional life, John owned and managed small businesses, including a tax consultancy, property development firm, and the first winery on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. He also served the community as a county commissioner and SCORE business mentor.
