Julia was born to Ida and John Perkins on December 26, 1924. She and her five older brothers grew up in Oakman, Alabama. After high school, Julia chased her dreams and studied art in Birmingham Al. While working as a department store window dresser she met the man of her dreams, Henry “Hank” Moorhead. They married on February 28, 1948 and soon afterwards moved to Jacksonville, FL. where she worked as an operator for Southern Bell. They had three children: Susan, Henry, and Iris. While Julia had a strong Episcopalian upbringing, she and Hank found the true spirit of Christ at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville where they were active members giving their time and energy as leaders in the college and career ministry and later as outreach leaders in their Sunday School departments.
Together they started their independent wedding and portrait photography studio, Moorhead Photography, which they both immensely enjoyed as a creative outlet. Julia believed it was better to stay busy than to have idle hands. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, creative baking, and needlepoint. She was a member of the Jacksonville Garden Club, won many awards in the Jacksonville Craft and Hobby Shows, took many cake-decorating and cooking classes, and could often be seen working in her gardens around her home. She loved to make beautiful cross-stitch and needlepoint designs for family and friends. But her main interest was her family where she focused on raising her children with Christian values.
Julia is predeceased by her husband Henry Moorhead in 1985 and her brothers and sisters: Edward, John, William, Lady Elizabeth, Ida, Anatole, and Phillip. She is survived by her three children Susan Green (Jeff Green), Henry Moorhead (Kim), and Iris Neil; four grandchildren: Christopher Green, Jennifer Green (Mindy Smith), Trey Moorhead, and Paige Moorhead; and two step-greatgrandchildren: Caden and Molly Smith.
The funeral service will be held 2pm Monday January 25, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
