Kenneth was born in Ty Ty, GA to William Altus Mathis and Ava Ruth Peugh Mathis. He was a longtime resident of FL, a member of the Army Reserves, a systems analyst, and upon retirement, moved to the North Carolina mountains. From there, he moved to Lake Worth, then back to Jacksonville. For many years, he played piano in the gospel quartet "The Believers”. He was also a Shriner through the Masons. He could be found happiest when he was enjoying the outdoors, nature, and family.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn D. Mathis. Children: Lisa Kemp (Chuck), Jacksonville FL; James Mathis, Atlanta, GA; Greg Mathis, Macclenny, FL; Pam Brookshire (Alan), Charlotte, NC; Jamie Ottinger (Jay), Dandridge, TN; Jimmy Mathis (Michelle), Senatobia, MS; Kathryn Buscemi (Kenny), Lake Worth Beach, FL. Also blessed with 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. We would like to thank St. Vincent’s Hospice for their compassionate care.
A memorial service for Kenneth will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
