I just found out..  The world lost a  special woman. The caring, generosity,, and positivity  that she showed everyone she met is rare in this world. My heart is broken for everyone who loved her and was lucky enough to have known her..

Scooter was one of the most lovely people I have ever met.

We were truly shocked and saddened to hear about Scooter's sudden passing. She was a remarkable woman, full of kindness and grace, and she touched the lives of so many in the community. Please know that our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

Words cannot express the depth of our sorrow for your loss. Scooter's memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

So sorry we could not attend the service as we were out of town at the time.

Mrs. Cavins always brightened my day with her beautiful smile and her hugs that I always looked forward to whenever I would walk into the house.

I hope you see this Drew. This is Steve Reynolds. Mark Ware and I came in to eat one day a few years ago. Scooter will be missed. 

I met Scooter and Drew the day before thy opened Mosfire.  My brother-in-law and I had to see the new place so we went in and waited to be served. Scooter came out and told us to come back tomorrow.  We did and Drew cooked up biggest and best Burrito I ever had then Scooter server us some PECAN Pie. Best Damn Pecan Pie ever. She told me she had a special ingredient, I never found out what it was but she made the best Damn Pecan Pie ever.

Kristen added sunshine to many a mundane checkout at Winn Dixie. 
She made an effort to remember my name, we exchanged a few foodie thoughts and talked of travels. 
Kristen glowed with curiosity. 
I am so very sorry that she is gone. And so very sorry for her family.

Oh sweet beautiful Scooter.  She really was the best boss ever! I worked for Scooter and Drew for almost five years. Mossfire was my first kitchen. She truly cared about her employees. The best thing about Scooter was that she wasn’t afraid of getting dirty and doing hard work. She was truly a great leader who led by example. She always checked on every single employee during each shift by going around and asking, “are you okay, you good, do you need anything?” While running around scrambling in a restaurant completely loosing your mind, it was always a huge relief when she would come and tag-team in or do whatever she had to do to bring that calming peace into the chaos of that fast paced restaurant. Most know that a few months ago they sold their restaurant. About one month ago I ran into Scooter at Winn Dixie. She was actually working there as the store manager. I told her all about my job at St. Mary’s and how much I loved it because I still get to work with food but in a totally different way. I told her that it’s pretty funny that she’s a grocery store manager and I’m a food pantry manager. We both agreed that our love for food and feeding others is something that we can’t seem to give up. 
So many prayers for Scooter, her family and all of her many many friends and employees that loved and adored her. We love you sweet beautiful shining Scooter.

Dear family and friends of Scooter,
I wanted to tell a sweet story about Scooter. 
Many years ago I had seen Scooter at the MossFire and told her my mom, Thelma Wood , was in the hospital down the street. 
The next day she packed a basket full of food and found my sister Debbie and me and gave us her generous gift knowing hospital food can get old. 
All her family and friends will miss her and Johnny and I will miss her as well.

Ms. Cavin's was my CCD teacher at St. Mathews when I was younger. Though that was a long time ago, I can never forget how kind and warm of a person she was.

Such an impeccable woman, an amazing mother, a valuable leader, and I feel blessed to have her as my business owner for the better part of a decade. Words cannot properly describe how many feelings I have, and I truly feel blessed in many facets of life having met her and being employed by her and her husband Drew, and working alongside both of her children. As she has pushed forward for the betterment of her community, I will continue to do the same and cherish the legacy she built in the restaurant she molded together with her very soul.

Scooter was such a great person.  Many of us from Stein Mart frequently dined at Mossfire, and came to cherish our friendship with her and Drew.  When hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast, Scooter baked dozens of her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for another executive and I to deliver to our affected associates in the stores from Baton Rouge to Biloxi.  All from the goodness of her heart.  She wouldn’t accept a dime for them.  Scooter will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched!

David and I absolutely adored Scooter! Everything about her made us smile!  From the minute we walked into Mossfire until the minute we left, she made sure that everything about the experience was not only perfectly delicious and enjoyable, but truly memorable.  We missed you both after you sold the business, but we love the fact that Ben has kept everything so nearly identical to the familiar, comforting, happy brand that you created and nurtured:  a  great tribute to you both!  We were there for my birthday a few weeks ago, and when they brought me one of Scooter’s  birthday chocolate chip cookies, I was overjoyed to find that it was still her recipe!❤️  She will forever be in our hearts and thoughts and prayers, and we will send a hug up to her each time we go back to Mossfire. Our deepest condolences to you, Drew, and family. We pray that you will take solace in knowing how very much she was loved, but not only that, by extension, how much you and your family are as well ❤️🙏

I worked at Mossfire during college. Scooter was such a great mentor and boss. I’ll admit, she kinda scared me, but she was a good soul and had a dry wit and sparkle in her eye that I’ll never forget. I am so sad to hear of her passing. She was an exceptional person that I’ll remember forever. So much love to her family.

Scooter was the beautiful welcoming face at Moss Fire. She always had a smile for everyone and sensed when you needed company. I felt we developed a friendship over the years and miss her.

This is a tragic loss for everyone who knew and loved Scooter- and anyone who knew her loved her. My heart goes out to her dear family and friends. We all miss her beautiful smile and sweet spirit.

Loved Scooter so much. Spent most of my evenings (after getting done working at the T-U,) dining there when they first opened as The Tumbleweed Grill - which usually included wonderful conversations with Scooter.  She was the kind of friend you hadn’t seen in forever, but when you’d meet up, you would pick up the conversation as if it was yesterday…

She was the epitome of hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and important.  And she was a mom and mentor to so many.  

Much love and deep peace to Drew, Sean, Dylan and family; and to everyone else whose life she touched. We were so lucky to have known her and will miss her so much.

Rest in peace, dear friend.

Ms. Cavins was a bright light in the world.  She was
in always beautiful, kind, caring, and loving.  The world was a better place because of Ms. Cavins life and a sadder place without her presence.  I will miss her.  R.I.P.

She was the sweetest, just as sweet as her baked goods…made Mossfire feel like home!  I cried when I heard she was selling but was so happy for her…she will be missed by many including me.  Many prayers to her family and friends,   See you later…🙏🏼

I first met and called on Scooter and Drew when they arrived onto the Jacksonville restaurant scene over 25 years ago. Scooter worked the front of the restaurant while Drew handled the kitchen and we 3 became more than just business associates. She was tough and demanded everyone just “do your job” and the rest would take care of itself. She held me to the same standard and it kept me on my feet.  It’s no wonder how successful the restaurant was for so long with such steadfast leadership. 

We are heartbroken and pass along our love to Drew, the 2 boys and all of her friends and family. If we can help with anything at all, just ask. May the Lord watch over you all ♥️.
