Larry was born in Chambersburg, PA to Dan O. Shatzer and Hilda Byers Shatzer. He graduated from St. Thomas High School and joined the U.S. Airforce for four years, meeting his wife Janet Sue LeMaster in Ashville, OH, and marrying in 1962. He worked for the Ohio Air National Guard for nine years, then attended the Central Ohio School for Preachers and Teachers, leaving the Guard for full-time ministering and preaching with the churches of Christ. Larry served multiple congregations throughout his career in Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida, specializing in personal evangelism and the mentoring of preaching students. In retirement, he enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, reading American history, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet; his son Larry (Mary), and his daughter Rebecca; his grandchildren Elizabeth (Toni), Luke, Zachary, Meredith, Angelina (Jonathan), Aleksandr, and Sophia; and his great-grandchildren Ruaidhri and Niamh.
