Laurence William Carney Jr. passed away July 29, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Dorothy Elizabeth and Laurence William Carney, Sr. He lived in Miami, Florida through his pre-teen years before the family returned to Jacksonville.
As a journeyman electrician for several companies, he was responsible for the electrical construction of many downtown Jacksonville buildings through the 50’s and 60’s. Later as a Master Electrician, he worked and retired as an Electrical Inspector for the city of Jacksonville after 20 plus years.
His lifelong passion was scuba and skin diving. He was a very active member of the Jacksonville Jetty Jumpers Diving club until the club disbanded. He spent many years diving in northeast Florida rivers. He also enjoyed annual boating and diving vacations in the Florida Keys. He spent countless hours collecting fossils, artifacts, bottles, shells and rocks on diving trips.
“Larry” was preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie Ethna in 2010, his son, Ricky William (Zana, deceased) and brother; John Patrick. Larry is survived by 2 sons; Larry Michael (Teresa) and Randy Marcus, 8 grandchildren, Eric, Brian, Jessica, Teagan, Ricky, Riley, Eathan and Zachary, 3 great grandchildren; Victoria, Erica and 1 year old Maverick.
