Lucena was born on June 30, 1932, in Cebu City, Philippines, to Elena Navarrao Navaja and Alejandro Navaja. She later moved to the United States, where she built a beautiful life rooted in love, sacrifice, and devotion. She was married to Thomas Flores Diagon, and together they raised seven children: Mario,
Victoria, James, Alfredo, Elsa, Domino, and Alma.
A dedicated homemaker, Lucena found joy in caring for her home and family. She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, especially children—whether they were her own children or those in the community, she welcomed them with open arms and a heart full of love. Her grandchildren—Marilyn, Curtis, Debbie, Chris, Shanae, Gunvey, Michael, Vanessa, TJ, Janet, Maureen, Edward, and Alberto—carry the warmth of her legacy with them.
Lucena’s influence in her family’s life was profound. She was a nurturing, loving, and selfless woman who always served her husband, ensured her children and grandchildren were well fed, and made everyone feel at home in her presence. She was loyal, family-oriented, and grounded in a quiet strength that brought peace and comfort to those around her.
She loved bargain shopping, cooking, cleaning, dancing, and watching wrestling—especially WWE. One favorite memory was her clever “hands-free phone” method, clipping her phone to her shirt so she could act out and cheer during matches while on the phone with her best friend. It was in those moments—laughing, animated, full of life—that her joyful essence shone brightest.
One of Lucena’s greatest accomplishments was bringing her family from the Philippines to the United States. She dreamed of a better future not just for herself, but for her children and generations to come. Her determination and sacrifices helped create opportunities and stability that shaped her family’s lives.
In her later years, she was lovingly supported by two dear family friends, Denis and Karen, who cared for her as if she were their own. Their kindness and devotion brought comfort and companionship during her final chapter, and the family will be forever grateful for their presence.
