

Moreland, Mary Helen, 85, passed away on September 5, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL, where she resided since 1960. Mary, more affectionately known as “Helen”, was born on November 23, 1935 in Beham, KY. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Birmingham, AL. It was there that she met the love of her life, Thomas A. Moreland. They were married on June 8, 1954. They were blessed with four children: Thomas A. Moreland Jr. (Barbara), James D. Moreland, Judith A. O’Donnell (Bill), and John D. Moreland (Melissa). They were happily married for 50 years. She lost her loving husband on June 24, 2004.
She is preceded in death by two sisters Margie Chandler and Carolyn Joan Stafford and her parents Johnny Hoket and Margaret Rachel Hoket (Pierce). She is survived by 2 sisters, Judith Kay McBride and Pamela May, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren with 2 on their way, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen and Thomas were active members of the Jacksonville Rock and Mineral Society. They loved their rocks. They were also active members at Ft. Caroline United Methodist Church for over 20 years.
Helen’s family and her church were two of the most important things in her life. All she needed was the love of her family and friends, and the love of her Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N, with Pastor Mickey Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the funeral home. All are welcome for a reception following the services at Ft. Caroline Rd, 8510 Ft. Caroline Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32277.
