Mike was born in Birmingham, AL and worked in the hospitality industry. He relocated to Takoma Park, MD, Callaway Gardens, GA and then Jacksonville, FL where he has resided since 1966. He worked as a Manager at the Hotel Robert Meyer and another early historical relic, the Hotel George Washington and remembers its 1973 demise. He remained in hospitality industry, working for Smith, Richardson and Conroy, Haines Food Service and Royalty Foods in food sales. Many people in the restaurant and hospitality industry throughout Jacksonville will miss his energetic and tirelessly dedicated service. He loved food.
Mike's early hobbies included playing guitar, photography and painting. He later enjoyed cooking and pronounced himself a self-taught geek—creating and maintaining ProgressiveInsight.com, FreakinLiberals.com and JaxInfo.net for many years. These websites were reflections of his compassion and dedication to supporting the rights of those less fortunate. The underdog was always his hero.
Even during Mike's 18 month struggle, family came first. He touched many caregiver's lives throughout the process, and made many new friends. He truly appreciated everyone who supported him and worked so very hard with him on his recovery efforts.
