Our dear Mother, Mildred (Millie) Pickett Edwards Sova, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of our Lord on Friday, April 26, 2024. The last days of her amazing 96- year life were spent at River Garden Hebrew Home for the Aged, here in Jacksonville, where she was given all the love, care, comfort and respect she so deserved.
Born in Jacksonville, on November 12, 1927, to Walter Pickett and Marie Haddock Pickett, Mom was always extremely proud of the Pickett family heritage that accompanied her through life. Upon graduation from Andrew Jackson High School in 1944, she began working at age 16, and over the years was employed by several local companies, as a secretary, until retirement in 1990. As an active member of Lake Shore Baptist Church since 1980, the unwavering devotion to her church and brothers and sisters in Christ, filled her life with joy, meaning and purpose. Mom loved to sew, dabble in crafts, birdwatch in the back yard, and her passion for plants and flowers eventually led to a lifelong membership in the Green Thumb Garden Club here in town. She was a very busy lady and so happy about it!
Mom was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter Pickett and Marie Haddock Pickett Clark; cherished sisters, Emma Weeks and Nettie Pickett; daughter-in-law, Donna Hamilton; and husbands, Woody Edwards and Albert Sova.
Mom is survived by her daughter Debbie (Lee) McGinnis; son, Gene Hamilton; grandson, Scott Shoemaker; great- grandchildren, Drew, Max, and Rain Shoemaker; brother-in-law, Claude Weeks; nephews, Russ Weeks and David (Susan) Weeks; and great-nephew, Matthew (Sara, and their twins, Leo and Ava) Weeks.
Our beloved Mother, Mildred, loved her God and Jesus her Saviour, and felt so very blessed to have her family, church family, and her many dear friends. There are no words to describe our love for her and how much she will be missed by us all.
A visitation for Mildred will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Lake Shore Baptist Church, 2365 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32210, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, A committal service will occur Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
