

Born June 20,1958 in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Joey enlisted in the United States Navy in 1980 where he served for 24 years, working as a pharmacy technician as well as being deployed in the Gulf War during Operation: Desert Storm. He retired from the Navy in 2004 reaching the rank of HMC. During his time of service he received several awards including a combat action ribbon for his time overseas.
After he retired from the military, he worked for the city of Jacksonville as an environmental technician and retired in 2023.
Outside of his professional life Joey was a man with many hobbies and interests. Among those included gardening, cooking, and sports. Though basketball was his first love, his passion moved over to golf throughout the years. An avid golfer, who once shot a hole in one at hole number seven at Queen’s Harbor Golf Course.
He was also involved with the Masons.
Joey is survived by wife, Zenaida and two children, son Alvin and daughter Carmela and chihuahua Nala. As well as his 3 brothers: Jose, Ernesto and Dennis Rabanal. He was preceded by his parents Ernesto and Estrella Rabanal.
A memorial mass will occur on February 21,2025 at 10:00 am at St John Paul II Catholic Church, 127 Stonemason Way, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081.
Military Honors will be rendered and committal will take place at Hardage Giddens Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N, Jacksonville, FL 32225 on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
