

Norman’s earthly departure has been preceded by his parents William James (Jim), Flora Lee (Fields) Harris and 13 siblings. Additionally, Norman lost the love of his life, and mother to his children, Phyllis Harris (Senne) on August 12, 2012.
Norman retired from the U.S. Navy after an illustrious 20-year career as an aircraft engine mechanic. He was a Korean war veteran and deployed afloat and ashore to numerous overseas locations during his Naval service. After his active-duty Navy retirement, he continued serving his country by being a Federal employee onboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville at the command then known as NARF Jacksonville. He retired from NARF after accumulating additional years of Federal service.
Regrettably, Norman prematurely lost his oldest son, Norman Frederick Harris to an unexpected short illness. Norman also lost his grandson Norman Frederick Harris Jr., to heart failure at the young age of 27.
Norman volunteered as an auxiliary with the Jacksonville Florida Sheriff’s office prior to being formally hired by the Jacksonville police department. Norman spent countless hours serving the local community to ensure its vibrancy and safety. Norman was presented with various awards to include the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” award in 1999.
As a hobby, Norman was an advent wood worker. His woodworking creativity was envied by those that witnessed his artistic flair and steady hands. His shaping and executing precision cuts, dependent on the attributes of that wood, were masterful.
Norman is survived by his loving son David E. Harris and daughter Debra (Debbie) L. Ekas. However, Norman’s legacy will live on as he left a loving and caring extended family that includes three granddaughters, 7 great granddaughters, 4 great grandsons, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205 on May 22, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. A committal service will take place at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073 on May 22, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
