Pat served honorably for 20 years in the United States Army and retired Sergeant First Class. He continued his clinical laboratory technician career with the Veteran’s Administration for another 20 years.
The biggest thing in his life has been family. Pat was a caring husband, proud father and doting grandpa. He also enjoyed the company of good friends. Pat was active in a variety of sports and loved to watch football. He read avidly and listened to music. He loved to grow flowers, show off his Christmas villages and share his colorful paintings.
Pat was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Velma (Mejia); and is survived by his son, Mark O’Harra (Patrick Gibbons); daughter Eva O’Harra; four loving grandchildren, Kady Stephenson (Daniel), Hanna Smaglis, John Paul Smaglis IV and Patrick Smaglis; and brother, Michael O’Harra.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Emilia Assisted Living Home in Alexandria, VA for the professional and compassionate care they provided to Pat.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages that donations in his memory be made to a local ALS chapter or to support global ALS research and ensure access to ALS care. Please visit ALS online at https://www.als.org/donate
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 12th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
