

Phil was born to Raymond and Irene Cay. He was widowed. He served in the US Army from 1946 – 1948. He completed high school and went to barber college. Phil was a great musician and he was self-taught. He started playing the piano at the age of 4. He started a band, Phil Cay and the Blue Notes in 1958 but later changed the name to Phil Cay and the Chantels. In 1958they recorded their first record, “Meet me in the Barn Yard.” This song became number 5 on the top 20 records. In 1959 they recorded “If They Ask Me,” followed by “T-Bird” in 1963. Finally they recorded an album as Phil Cay and the Chantels. Phil was also a barber who worked alongside his father Raymond Cay and sister Bonnie Jarrett. They had a shop called Cay’s.
Phil leaves behind four daughters, Yvonne Losco (David), Debbie Terrell, Angie Coble, and Lisa Hanson; sisters, Jackie, Bonnie Jarrett, and Beverly Palmer; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Phil was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather and friend.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 10:00am at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am.
