Rita Kirkland Smith of Florahome, FL, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Hospital Middleburg, FL., with her family by her side. She was born in Chiefland, FL, March 21, 1935 to William Guy and Louise Barrow Kirkland. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Marion Guy Kirkland, Royce Guy Kirkland, Horace Guy Kirkland, Clyatt Guy Kirkland and William Guy Kirkland. She is survived by a brother, Herbert Lee Kirkland and his wife Gracie, sister Margaret Sneed, sisters-in-law Lucille Kirkland and Lillian Kirkland, and many loving nieces and nephews. Rita worked in the food service industry for over 35 years and loved to cook, loved to garden, and loved to fish. She was truly educated by life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Hardage Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205 (904) 781-9262. The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 10:00 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 3:00pm at the Long Pond Cemetery in Chiefland, FL.
