Robert, “Papa” as he was called by many, was a person of simple joys and steady passions. He found freedom on the open road, spending 38 years as a truck driver for Winn Dixie before his retirement in 2004. Country music could always be found playing on his radio, whether in a semi or his pick-up truck. Old country tunes that told stories of heart, hardship, and home.
Robert spent 4 years serving in the United States Navy and is a Legionnaire Member of the American Legion Post 9.
Dancing was another joy, whether it was a slow sway or a lively step, always done with a smile and one arm tightly pressed by his side (his signature move). Evenings were often spent in front of the television, loyal to black-and-white classics and westerns, where good guys wore their hats low and always found a way to win.
A devoted fan of NASCAR and NFL football, he loved his Jacksonville Jaguars, rarely missing a race or a good game, cheering loudly and scaring the dog to death.
Above all, Robert was a family man. He will be remembered for his steady presence, hardworking spirit, and a love for life’s simple things. He leaves behind lots of loved ones and friends who will miss him dearly and carry his memory forward with love.
Robert leaves behind his wife and soulmate of 62 years, Barbara “Judy” Briley, 3 children - Donna Foerman (Bruce), Robert Briley Jr. (Gisele) and Angelia Thrush (Erik). 6 Grandchildren – Kara Altman (Jonathan), Hunter Briley (Anna Katrina), Brittney Briley, Karlee Jones (Kyle), Austin Keahey (Summer), Brandon Keahey, and Cassey (Josh). 8 Great-Grandchildren – Clayton, Owen, Malaya, Luke, Bennett, Makenzie, Rafe and Rory.
