Robert William Engel, Sr. was born in the Bronx, New York on November 3, 1921. He was the son of William Francis and Elizabeth Lillian (Burkhardt) Engel. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational High School in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in the Pacific. On December 8, 1943 he married Irene Anne Schmidt. Together they had six children: Richard William Engel, Thomas Engel, Robert William Engel, Jr., Nancy Anne Engel, Patricia Mary Engel, and Janice Irene Engel Bellinger. After Irene’s death in 1965, Bob married Therese Evelyn Kelly.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene; his son, Richard; and his second wife, Therese. He is survived by his other children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His cremated remains will be inurned in Deland Memorial Gardens.
