Robert J. Irwin Jr.

Bob was born on June 16, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to his late parents Margaret and Robert Irwin, Sr. He was the oldest of three children. Bob lived in Jacksonville, Florida for most of his life. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, followed by serving in the United States Navy. He attended Jacksonville Junior College prior to being called into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He attend the University of Florida’s College of Education, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. For 30 years, he was an educator for Duval County Public Schools. During that time, he met Eula Irwin, who would one day become his wife. For over 40 years together, they enjoyed a life together filled with travel, wine, and love.

Bob was a wordsmith. Not only was he able to speak multiple languages, but he was also passionate about words. He loved reading and completing crossword puzzles-in red ink. Music was another of his passions. From opera to disco to swing to rock, he enjoyed it all. Bob was a world traveler and adventurer. In his lifetime, he traveled extensively throughout Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Eula and Bob traveled together to Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Canada, and various other places within the continental United States. If a roller coaster was along the trip, it was even better.

Bob is survived by his wife Eula Irwin, his son John Robert Irwin, his sister Dr. Carol Mason (and Ron) and his sister Joan Irwin. Bob is also survived by his stepchildren Jennifer Jones (Sean) and James Davis, his granddaughter Avery Davis, his niece Julia Kramer Mori, his nephew Christopher Kramer (Teresa), his niece Victoria Runnoe, nephew Peter Mason (Samantha), was well as grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be remembered for his gentle soul.

A visitation for ROBERT will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A graveside service will occur Friday, September 16, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
