With heavy hearts and unimaginable sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved son, Robert Bruce Reed III, who left us on August 1, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 34.
Robert was born on November 28, 1990, in Birmingham, Alabama. He grew up in Walker County and was a proud 2009 graduate of Curry High School, where he attended from kindergarten through his senior year. Surrounded by classmates, neighbors, and teachers who loved him, Robert became a loyal friend to many—never one to turn away when someone needed a hand.
A dedicated and hard-working craftsman, Robert served as a lead roofer in his most recent position. His boss, Brett, thought the world of him and often said Robert had the potential to be his right-hand man. That trust and respect reflected the way Robert lived—steadfast, dependable, and kind.
Robert was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dewey Gene Carter Jr. (Deloris); grandmothers, Gilda Regina Staggs and Cande Maxie; his father, Michael Bruce Reed Sr.; and his brother, Michael Brent.
He is survived by his loving mother, Lisa Wesson (James); his wife, Tara McDonald; and his sons, Mason Mansfield and Azrael Reed. He is also survived by his brothers, Christopher Reed (Melissa), Michael Reed (Jenny), Nathaniel Reed (Jasmyn), and Tristan Reed (April); his sisters, Amber Flores (Kevin) and Jordan Wesson; his uncles, Christian Carter and Bradley Carter (Vicky); and his cousins, Crystal Belser, Kevin Carter, Ashley Ulbrich (Jeremy), Coy Carter (Courtney), and Osha Carter.
Robert adored his extended family, and his joy was evident whenever he was with his nieces and nephews. He is lovingly remembered by his nephews, Joshua Reed (Hope), Nathaniel Reed, Walker Reed, Tristan “TJ” Reed Jr., Aden Reed, Roman Reed, Ayden Reed, and Brody Reed; and by his nieces, Kaylee Reed, Alexis Reed, Kendall Reed, and Aubree Reed.
A small celebration of Robert’s life will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, first, followed by a service in Birmingham, Alabama, at a later date. Details will be shared by the family when arrangements are complete.
Those who knew Robert will remember his big heart, his willingness to help, and the quiet strength he carried into every room. His love for his family and friends endures, and his memory will forever be a blessing. He will be missed.
