Roy E. Voelker

Roy E. Voelker passed away March 6, 2010 at 71 years of age. He was employed by the Duval Co. School Board and retired after 33 years of service to the educational community. Mr. Voelker honorably served our Nation in the United States Navy for nearly 4 years. His hobbies included amateur radio (WB4DHI), as a member of NOFARS and RANGE. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and “Favorite Uncle.”

Mr. Voelker is preceded in death by his son Karl, parents Oscar and Elizabeth Voelker, a brother Nelson Voelker, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Bill McNeese, parents-in-law Lorenzo and Mary Padgett, and brother-in-law Lewis Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Elaine, son Kirk (Kitty), granddaughter Sandra May, grandson John Galietta (Victoria), great-granddaughter Hannah Leigh, sister Lori Hurlebaus (John), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law Rozelle and Jake Gaither, Gloria Jones, Larry and Sue Padgett, Betty and Rod Lawson, Kathy and Ray Green, aunt Marie Evans, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Voelker’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Special thanks to niece Susan Turchon and granddaughter Sandra May for their countless days of devoted loving care.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., officiated by Dr. Larry Padgett. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park. A reception will be held for family and friends following interment.
