

Sterling proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971, followed by distinguished service in the United States Army from 1977 until his retirement in 1993. His commitment to protecting and serving others continued in civilian life through his work with the Baker County Correctional Center from 1996 to 2001 and later with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department from 2001 to 2011.
Beyond his professional service, Sterling had a passion for reading, cruising, motorcycle riding, and the freedom of the open road. He was a proud member of the Blue Knights for 25 years and most recently enjoyed riding with The Wednesday Riders Club. Through these organizations, he formed many lasting friendships and shared countless adventures.
Sterling was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Kaylor, and his father, Dr. Hoyt Kaylor.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Rita Privee Smith; his sister, Leigh Kaylor of Alabama; his children, Christine Farrell Dull and her husband Robert Dull of Florida, Peter Levola and his wife Christy Levola of North Carolina, Nancy Levola of Connecticut, Michelle DuClau of Florida, and Alan Privee of Connecticut; as well as 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.
Sterling will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, sense of duty, and love of family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
