Tommy or Tom as he was known to family and friends was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Thomas M. Sweat, Sr. and Hope Celeste Campbell Sweat. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Tommy grew up in the Springfield, Northside area of Jacksonville and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1960. After graduation from high school he received an appointment into Annapolis Naval Academy, which he attended for a year.
He graduated from Jacksonville University in 1964 which he attended with a full basketball scholarship. He also attended one year of law school at the University of Florida.
After graduation from college, Tommy was employed by the State of Florida Department of Parole and Probation. His time and experience there led him to be appointed as a special agent for the United States Secret Service under The Treasury Department from 1969 to 1989. He protected many Presidents, Presidential candidates, their families, foreign dignitaries and was on Pope John Paul the II's detail both times The Pope visited the U.S.
After retiring from the US Secret Service, he went to work for the State of Florida as a Medical Malpractice Investigator until 2009, at which time he retired from that job.
Tommy loved playing golf with his friends and actually played with The Duval Golf Association and was Golfer of the Year in 2001. He also loved the Jacksonville Jaguars and had season tickets for many years until health issues forced him to stop playing golf and unable to attend home games for the Jags. He also was a fan of both the Gators and Seminoles but leaned more toward the Gators because of his attendance at the University of Florida law school.
He leaves behind his wife Cindy (Johnson) Sweat, his daughter Amanda (Mandy) Sweat and his son-in-law Aeryck De Sade.
His funeral service will be an immediate family only service.
