

William Nathaniel James was born on November 18, 1942 in Egg Harbor, NJ to Richard Levi James and Susanna Gibbs James. William attended the Egg Harbor City School System and graduated from Egg Harbor High School in 1960 where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After working for a year, he attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. He graduated in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967 as an infantry operations specialist. Upon returning from war, he transferred to the Army Reserves and retired after 20 years of combined service at the rank of Major.
William met Rhudine Monroe during their schooling at North Carolina A&T State University and they married on November 11, 1970. They resided in Greensboro, NC for several years before settling in Jacksonville, FL in 1974. William was employed by Sears as a shipping manager and retired after over 25 years of service. He was a member of Crucifixion Catholic Church.
William and Rhudine had three children – Bryan, Janice, and Michele. Together, William and Rhudine provided a loving home full of joy and laughter. William will be remembered fondly for his kindness, generosity, humor, and his ability to make an amazing breakfast. Through his thoughtful actions and sacrifices, he touched and improved the lives of many.
William was predeceased by his parents Richard and Susanna James, seven brothers, Albert, Stanley, Richard, Harold, Lawrence, Marvin, and Andrew and one sister, Sandra. His memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife Rhudine; his children Bryan (Kerry) of Lithia, FL, Janice (Thomas) of Richterswil, Switzerland, Michele (Tim) of Boston, MA; his sisters Murdis and Lois of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Josephine, Lillian, Sydney, Zachary, Keely, Keegan, and Avery; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
