William L. Williams, 88, passed away March 3, 2017 in Carrollton, GA. He was born June 26, 1928 to Grover and Marium Williams. Laurence was a truck driver in his younger years but will most recently be remembered being a delivery messenger here in Jacksonville transporting packages to and from many local businesses. Laurence and his late wife Emily enjoyed bowling with a league on Jacksonville’s Westside for many years. He could play just about any instrument he picked up, but was especially good on the banjo, guitar and the harmonica. Laurence had a strong love for Bluegrass music. So much so that he and Emily would travel around in their camper and attend as many Bluegrass festivals as they had time for. Laurence comes from strong Williams and Wingate family roots right here in Jacksonville but moved to Villa Rica, GA in 2015 with his wife Emily to be closer to family after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by 2 children Larry Williams, Lori Williams, 3 stepchildren Rhonda Gauthreaux, Emily Shoup, Richard Shoup, siblings Johnny Williams, Leo Wingate, Doris Sherly, and Jody Wingate. Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home is serving the family. A visitation for friends will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 10-11am in the chapel of the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11am following visitation at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Central and North Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
