Rick was born on October 12th, 1966 in Detroit, MI to Patricia Robinson and the late Peter Robinson. He grew up in Detroit, attending Holy Name Catholic School. When the family moved to Sterling Heights he attended St. Clements and Bishop Foley High School. Rick attended Ferris State University earning his bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and later a Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Rick was known for his larger than life personality, finesse in story-telling, and a presence that left a lasting impression. Rick had a deep love of golf that started at a young age when caddying at Red Run Golf Club. He continued to play throughout his life and instilled that love in his kids; both with playing or watching Rory, Phil, and Tiger together on Sunday mornings.
Rick was also a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers. He attended games as often as possible with friends, family or coworkers, and watched or listened to the rest of them. Over the past few years, Rick and Kristi ushered for the Tigers in order to attend as many games as possible.
Without a doubt, his favorite activity was spending time with Kristi - whether it was trying new restaurants, or enjoying a night out on the deck. Rick was at his best when in her presence.
Rick is survived by his wife of 38 years Kristi, as well as his three children Justin, Halle (Kort), and Maci (Gust), mother, Patricia, and three siblings David, sister-in-law Judy, Donna (Jim) Rouse, and Karen (Scott) Kennedy, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father Peter Robinson and nephew, Matthew Barsamian.
The only certainties in life are taxes, death, and that on a Sunday morning you could find Rick with a Coke and a newspaper. Without fail he would say, “well today is a good day, I am not listed in the obituaries section.” We would give a lot for that to still be true today, Robby.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to:
Evans Scholars Foundation to help create opportunities for young students who are involved in the sport that gave Rick so many memories, and friendships. wgaesf.org
The Matthew D. Barsamian Foundation honoring the memory of his beloved nephew, Matt. Contributions made will help to preserve Matt’s legacy, the foundation supports youth athletics, fosters positive and constructive relationships, and reflects the very values Rick lived by and sought to uplift.
