Ruth Catherine Owen (nee Sihtala), age 85 of Orchard Lake, MI and Englewood, FL. Ruth passed away unexpectedly of an aneurysm on June 15, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph - Mercy Oakland in Pontiac. Ruth was born in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Kearsarge on July 1, 1924 and was raised in Detroit. After graduating from Cooley High School, she attended the Harper Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1945 and served as an operating room nurse at Harper and Beaumont Hospitals. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nan and Emil and brother, Carl. Surviving are her loving husband of 64 years, John S.; children, Glen (Linda), David, Diane and Doug (Karen); grandchildren Benjamin, Elizabeth Catherine and Daniel; nieces Pam Clark, Patty Posten, Laura MacReynolds, Debrah Fifield. Through the years, John and Ruth made countless friends through their many shared interests and travel. Visitation 2-4 pm with Memorial Service at 4 pm Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Kirk In the Hills Presbyterian Church, 1340 W. Long Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills. Memorials to Michigan Nature Association or Michigan Humane Society.
