Andrew was born in Killeen, TX, on February 18, 1983, the youngest of two boys born to Elizabeth Bigham Blackstone and Carey Blackstone. He attended Killeen schools and The University of Texas at Austin. Andrew returned to Killeen where he served as a cameraman with KNCT-TV, a skill he first used on ETV at Ellison High School. Andrew’s professional life also included being a cameraman and reporter for a local news station.
Andrew, or Drew to his school friends, was loved for his kindness, his free spirit, and his love of nature. He was admired for his generous spirit and ability to make everyone feel valued. He was first among his peers to understand computers and the internet. Like his mother, Andrew was a traveler who was curious and sought to know more about the world in which he lived. He journeyed to remote places with camera in hand to capture all the beauty he saw. And, he didn’t do it the easy way. Andrew would pack his car with camping gear and head off across America in search of beauty and solitude. For those who knew Andrew, his role of devoted son who cared unceasingly and lovingly for his mother during her illness defines the goodness of his life and the memories he leaves behind.
Andrew was preceded in death by his mother and father and his grandparents, William S. Bigham and Helen Howard Bigham. Andrew is survived by his brother, William Blackstone and sister-in-law, Mardelle Atkins, Ph.D. of Huntsville; his aunt, Mary Kliewer, and uncle, Bill Kliewer, of Salado; and numerous cousins.
