Annie Jane (Janie) Quincey passed from this life on Thursday, November 23, 2023 (Thanksgiving Day) at Copperas Cove Nursing & Rehab, surrounded by the love of family members present, and in spirit. She was 92. The only reason she departed was apparently because they served oatmeal that morning! (Mom insisted on a joke in her obituary, so there it is, Mom!)
Janie was born in Arredondo, Florida. She was the youngest of five children to a single mom who was a sharecropper and worked to purchase her own land. Family has been a huge component to Mom’s determination for how she created her life. A love story began early in life with Samuel R. (Runt) Quincey following “Watermelon Pond”. If you haven’t heard this story, please ask! Their love story created the most wonderful family:
Children: Amanda Bingham (Steve), Adine Moser (Bob), Suzy Quincey (deceased), Mary McLean, Julie Morris (Jerry), and Scott Quincey (Terri Linn).
Grandchildren: Miller Bingham (Tiffany), Rickey Kelly Jr., Katy Trollinger, Rob Moser (Tacy), Brett Moser, Sandi Ethridge (Joel), Erin Hitzeman, Lauren Hallerman (Josh), Kalyn McLean, Drew Chapman (Shelley), Jon Chapman, Kennen Quincey, Cody Quincey, Ashley Kistler (Jason), Tyler Morris, Kyle Morris (Brin).
Great Grandchildren: Allison Bingham, Carson Bingham, Rachel Kelly, Susan Trollinger, Kayleigh Wynne (Johnny), Lauren Toothman (Andrew), Luke Moser, Sam Moser, Ashlyn Ethridge, Jayden Ethridge, and Bentleigh Moser, Holli Jackson, Luke Kistler, Reagan Hitzeman, Dalton Hitzeman, Tucker Hitzeman, Tatum Hallerman, Sutton Hallerman, Beckam Bessiere, Kendall Chapman, Keniseigh Chapman, Khloenn Chapman, Khota Chapman, Lily Morris. Great-Great Grandchildren: Elise Wynne
She is predeceased by her siblings: Oliver “Bud” Bailey Jr., Alene Myers, Jimmy Bailey, and Jasper “Billy” Bailey.
Mom’s lifelong adventure with Dad continued until his death in 2020. They were married 71 years. For 30 years she was a military wife, with multiple moves - Georgia, Japan, Fort Hood, Texas (twice), Okinawa (twice), and an absence of dad for a year while in Korea. She adapted to every change with positivity. I believe she lived her best life every day!
Janie was a caregiver, not only to her own family, but to every person she could minister to. Having young soldiers over for dinner was a common thing. We did not have much, but somehow there was always enough. She was well known for her biscuits, pickles, jams and jellies, and prepared everything and anything from Dad’s garden. Weird gifts from catalogs were expected every Christmas! She played piano by ear (a gift!), so there was always singing around the piano. She felt it was her ministry and played for her church, Triple 7 Baptist Fellowship, until a few months before her death. She bragged that she “could play in Japanese!” (playing for some Japanese services). When admitted to the nursing facility, she told us she “got a new job!” playing for the services. Mom loved to laugh! Every joke was read from Reader’s Digest! She was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church and worked there for several years. She was active in choir and played softball for the church team. She also loved baseball, the color purple, and oh … did someone say fried fish?!?!
Mom was a warrior. She was a breast cancer survivor, but also had several physical issues, but never complained. Praise God, today she is totally healed … in her new body … together with all her loved ones that went before … most especially Dad and Suzy.
Most of all, Janie loved the Lord. She would hum all day … joy just leaking from her soul. She was a true testament every day of her salvation and shared that with every person (especially if you entered her room the last few months of her life). She wanted to make sure everyone she loved had a relationship
with Jesus, and a place in Heaven. She lived for the moment she would see Jesus.
We have been blessed every day with your presence, love, and care, Mom. Our world has changed without you, but you will be forever in our hearts.
“Mata Ashita” (till tomorrow), Mom. We love you.
