Bonnie Ulene Mierzwik Kern went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2015 while resting peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Bonnie is one of four daughters born on November 21, 1936 to Lillie Ann and Calvin Mierzwik and is preceded in death by both her parents, her sister Bobbie and her daughter Sheri Arti Kern. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Pat Kern, her oldest daughter, Stacie Kern Dishon and her husband George Dishon; her son, Patrick Kern and his wife Krista Kern. Also left to cherish her memory are her four grandchildren, Jacqueline Sulak, her husband Cody, Alex Dishon, his wife Annette, Chase Kern and Ty Kern and her sisters Bebe Clark and Barbara Clore.
Bonnie is a 1955 Graduate of Killeen High School where she met and married Pat Kern soon after graduation. Pat and Bonnie spent the first five years of their marriage being hunting and fishing buddies until they decided to have children. They shared a love of the outdoors and spent many wonderful times in Colorado at their cabin with friends and family. Bonnie loved to paint, read, cook, work in her yard, play bridge with her friends and merely enjoy life. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed having her house full of family, laughter and friends. Though small in stature Bonnie lived large with a fierce love of life and a drive that allowed her to accomplish many things. As a charter member of the Viva Les Arts Society, Bonnie was instrumental in the vision and work that started as an old abandoned Texas Theater on Avenue D Street in Killeen in 1976 and transitioned to the fine arts complex that resides on W. S. Young Drive today.
Bonnie’s laughter was infectious, her love and devotion for her family unwavering and her loyalty to her friends true. She will be deeply missed.
