Clara M Honaker Maher

Born on September 15th 1945 in Buffalo, New York, Clara grew up with a natural love for the outdoors and an enduring bond with animals of all kinds. Whether rescuing stray cats, feeding the wildlife in her back yard or feeding the ducks at Central Texas College campus, she lived a life rooted in gentleness and empathy. Clara spent the majority of her professional career at CTC in administration, be it in Killeen or Germany, and was an active member of the CTC Retirement Alumni Group. She also found joy in being a part of her Square Dance Group, the Killeen Kickers.

She is the proud mother of Gary Honaker and David & Peggy Honaker and loving grandmother to Tristan & Becca Honaker, Delaney & Chris DeWitt, and Trinity Honaker. Her family will always remember her as the woman who never turned away a hungry animal, and crazy enough… she kept a bag of cat food in the rear of her sport utility “just in case”. She believed kindness extended to all creatures great and small.

Clara is preceded in death by her mother Annabell Aldrich and her father Howard. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, and many other family members and friends that will miss her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 5th, 2025 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home located in Killeen Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and will be followed by a graveside service at Killeen City Cemetery at 10:30am.

To honor Clara’s love of animals the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter or wildlife organization.
