In April of 1972, Donald married the love of his life, Mary. April 28th, 2020, they celebrated 48 years of marriage and 50 years of a whirlwind romance together. Don was one of a kind, in a room full of people, you always knew where Don was at. I had the pleasure to work with Don for a few years. When I messed something up, he would definitely let me know, and that's where his leadership would come out. From one Veteran to another, going to miss you brother!!

A true leader.

“Top Welch” was a leader of soldiers, and a mentor to all who served under him. His guidance was paramount in turning young men and women into future leaders in and out of the military. Anyone who knew him, or served with him was better off on their journey through life. He will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to Mary and his lovely daughters, please know that everyone who knew him was a better person from the experience. SALUTE!!!

Don was awesome to work with and even better to be around. One of the great experiences each day was being with Don regardless of the required task. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends. God bless you don and thanks for the memories!

I so enjoyed working with Don from 2000-2011 at the Battle Simulation Center. He was an instigator of fun. I can still hear his chuckle. He gave me my nickname “Scooby”. I have so many fond memories of him. Sending hugs and prayers to Mary and family.
