

Services for Edna Wayne McMillan Gilmore, 98, will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Killeen. Burial will follow at the Killeen City Cemetery.
Edna Wayne, better known to those who loved her as MeMe, was born December 13, 1917 in Valley Mills, Texas to John McMillan and Mattie Bearden McMillan.
On October 13, 1940, she married Louis Robert (Bob) Gilmore. They moved to Killeen in 1946 when Bob started Big Chief Distributing in downtown Killeen where it is still owned and operated today by John Gilmore.
Mrs Gilmore was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was very active. She was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women as well as a former Circle chairwoman, member of the board of trustees and superintendent of the Children’s Sunday School.
MeMe also had a green thumb and joined the Killeen Garden Club in 1952 where she served in several offices including president. She was a member of the Central Texas Flower Show Judges and was a Master Judge for 35 years.
Mrs Gilmore was a member of the Thomas Huling Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a past president of the Governor Samuel Mathews Chapter of Colonial Dames.
As the proud mother of two sons, Gary and Wayne, Mrs. Gilmore served as a den mother for their Boy Scout troops for several years. She was also active in her community and served the City of Killeen on the advisory board of the Bob Gilmore Center for many years.
Mrs. Gilmore was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob,
brothers Edwin (Buck) McMillan, Virgil (Mac) McMillan, Jack McMillan and sisters Joyce Higginbotham and Florence Sadler.
Survivors include her sons, Gary Gilmore and wife Tijuana of Spring City, Tennessee, and Wayne Gilmore and wife Kathy of Killeen. She is also survived by brother, Nelson Clark (Clarkie)McMillan and wife, Betty, sister in laws, Christine McMillan and Geraldine McMillan, all of Valley Mills and six grandchildren, one step grandchild, fifteen great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 16 from 5-7pm at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
