Her motto as a teacher was “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” She made sure that none of her students wasted their studies but always wondered if she was making a positive impact. She learned that she was when a former student who was graduating from high school invited her to attend his graduation. In his invitation, he said – “, Plumlee, thank you for turning me on to learning in the fourth grade. She loved teaching, writing and reading. Among some of her and her husbands friends, she was known as “The Book Lady.” Penny enjoyed the beauty of God’s world, quite meals with friends, children of all ages, yellow roses, and fall leaves. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing with her parents and water skiing. Penny was lovingly known as the “bag lady” by her family. A visit from mom/grandma was not complete without her reorganizing all her bags at least once during her visit.
